Brunnegg castle
a spring of inspiration
Located in Kreuzlingen, Canton of Thurgau, the Brunnegg Castle boasts a long tradition since its original construction in around 1250. Surrounded by numerous natural springs, the famous psychiatrist and later owner, Ludwig Binswanger, named the castle “Brunnegg” at the end of the 19th century (brunnen = fountain/well).
The estate acted as a gathering place for several historical figures, including Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Friedrich Nietzsche and the historian and cultural theorist Aby Warburg. The German author, Heinrich Hoffman, wrote his most famous work, “Struwwelpeter” (“Shaggy Peter”) within the castle’s tower room.
We hope to celebrate and carry on Brunnegg Castle’s tradition as a place for promoting progressive thinking and exchanging innovative ideas.
